Germany reaches knockout stage of World Cup

-Germany and Norway advanced to the knockout stage of the Women's World Cup with wins in Group B. Germany blanked Thailand, 4-0, while Norway was a 3-1 winner against Ivory Coast.
-The Padres fired manager Bud Black after 8-plus seasons. There are reports the team will interview Triple-A manager Pat Murphy for the position.

-Eight members of the Kansas City Royals lead in voting at their positions for the American League All-Star team. If voting ended today, only Angels outfielder Mike Trout and the starting pitcher wouldn't be in the starting lineup.

-The Indians-Cubs game has been postponed because of rain and will be made up on August 24th.

-The new home for the Minnesota Vikings will be known as US Bank Stadium. The Vikings will begin play at the facility in 2016.

-Chargers safety Eric Weddle will report for mandatory minicamp tomorrow after being absent from OTA's because he wasn't happy with his contract.

-DenverPost.com: The Nuggets have hired Mike Malone as their new head coach.  The former Sacramento Kings head coach replaces Brian Shaw, who was fired in March.

-Warriors guard Steph Curry had to be treated for dehydration following his Game 5 media conference, according to CBSSports.com.

-Last night's Game 5 of the NBA Finals delivered a 14.2 overnight rating, up 21 percent from last year's Game 5 between Miami & San Antonio.

-Tampa Bay Lightning forward Nikita Kucherov and goalie Ben Bishop both participated in the team's morning skate and are expected to play in tonight's Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final.

-A chartered plane that was supposed to take the Dodgers from San Diego to Texas for their series against the Rangers had to make an emergency landing last night at LAX because of a mechanical issue.
