Mikrotik Router: How to Basic Configuration, WiFi Hotspot and Captive Portal Tutorial
If you just bought a Mikrotik router but you have no idea how to set up or configure your router and then you went to Google for some answers. But yet you are still confused on how to do it and have made a lot of failures and its getting on your nerves and you are feeling hopeless now, well, I had felt what you are feeling right now. It took me one week to get it working and with captive portal too. You have come to the right site guys cause I'm guiding you to the right sources that will really help you about your problem right now. These are the only sources that i really found important.

HOW TO BASIC CONFIGURE THE MIKROTIK ROUTER

NOTE (Please READ cause its really important): I have read countless articles and watched a lot of videos about basic configuration of the router. But this is the only video that made my router working.  I cried out of happiness cause I got it working. But i didn't follow everything in that video though. By the way you have to download winbox first.

Download Site: http://www.mikrotik.com/download (Latest Version)

But I prefer the old version though. In the video, he also use the old version. There aren't a lot of sites to download for the old version of winbox. So to save you some time, here's the download link for the old version of winbox.

After you have downloaded winbox, you can now start watching this video.

PLEASE READ THIS --> You have the choice to follow the part wherein he reset the configuration. It will actually lead you to another problem. WHY? Cause when he checked NO DEFAULT CONFIGURATION, it will wipe out everything. I have encountered this problem and if you are undergoing the same problem, here is the forum that helped me solve that problem.

But for me, I think its best to reset because the old configurations won't conflict with the new configuration. One small conflict can lead to router to not working at all. But if you want to reset but you don't want to encounter that problem, just don't checked the NO DEFAULT CONFIGURATION.

Anyways, just except that part, you can follow everything in the video. I didn't follow everything in the video. Just the parts about adding IP addresses , routes, bridge, firewall and some stuffs that I find important. By the way, the IP address for ether1 depends on your Internet Service Provider IP address and in ether2, It depends on you what IP address you like to give for it. Its for the LAN. But i think you should follow the ether2 IP address in the video so that you won't get confused.

Winbox (old version) and webfig have kindof similar design. I haven't tried the winbox latest version.

After that, input the LAN IP you inputted in the winbox to your browser so that you could go to the webfig. In the video, it is 192.168.1.1 . In the screenshot, its 192.168.88.1 . Actually it depends on what you put in ether2 IP Address and in IP>Routes. But if you can't go to webfig and confused on what IP address to put in browser, run CMD and type ipconfig. There you will see what IP address and the Default Gateway had been assigned to your computer. You can input IP Address or Default Gateway to your browser. This is an example:

Check if you can connect to the internet. Click New Terminal > type ping www.google.com

Before you go any further, BACKUP YOUR CONFIGURATION. Click Files > Backup.

And then click QUICK SET to set up the wireless hotspot.  If only one wifi user that can connect to the internet, It's because you have misconfigure your QUICK SETUP. Click Files > Restore. To restore the configuration you have backup earlier. And then go back to QUICK SET.  Make sure you have chosen AP, STATIC for ADDRESS ACQUISITION, put the right WLAN IP ADDRESS, LAN IP ADDRESS, CHECKED DHCP SERVER and NAT, put the right DHCP CLIENT (Should be the range of your LAN IP ADDRESS like

LAN IP ADDRESS : 192.168.1.1

DHCP CLIENT:  192.168.1.100-192.168.1.200 )

If you still encounter the problem, Please make sure that all are enabled. Like wlan1 is enabled.

If you still can't connect, here's the article about wifi hotspot.

NOTE (Please READ THIS): The interface should be bridge1, not ether1 or wlan1. It will put invalid. You have the choice to enable RADIUS SERVER on your hotspot. But to my router, I didn't use the RADIUS SERVER
